I’m sure that most if not all of your would agree that September is the busiest month in the wedding industry and this past September was no exception! It was such a crazy month that it took me a month just to write this post. A videographer from one (of the four weddings I did last month) sent a sneak peek video, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on details that stood out to me and wanted to share them with you.
With almost every event comes some minor contingencies for which it’s hard to plan ahead. A member of the bridal parties’ dress ripped down the back just as we were inviting guests to dinner. I quickly delegated the task of going to the hotel and retrieving a new dress complete with matching shoes and clutch to a member of my team and no one was the wiser. This allowed the family member to relax and enjoy her dinner knowing that we were there and the problem was resolved. At another wedding a couple missed the shuttle to the reception and someone from my team offered to drive them to the venue, where they arrived with plenty of time to revel in cocktail hour. Thanks to my amazing team and personal experience, each wedding was a huge success in and of itself.
But what really stands out to me -one month after- are the following details. At one of the outdoor weddings I planned, I loved the one-of-a-kind open-air tent that was erected over the dance floor. This allowed guests to dance under a beautiful four-foot wide chandelier as well as the stars. Another couple numbered their dinning tables by years, which beard significance to them, i.e. the year they met, the year he proposed and the year they got married. And who could forget the dramatic walk down the aisle of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, followed by (much later, of course) a stage of ladies dancing to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”?
At Stacy McCain Event Planning, we strive to imagine and anticipate every little detail that could possibly go wrong at an event, yet things happen and it’s important to be flexible and roll with the punches.
